Shop local and support small business owners in Milwaukee. This week for our Keepin’ It Local series, we are featuring Rainbow Booksellers, located in Milwaukee’s Northwest neighborhood of Washington Heights.

This locally owned children’s book store sells high quality books, wooden toys and puzzels. From the second I walked in the door, I was inspired to find something to take home. The afternoon I stopped in, I was greeted by the owner, Joe, who’s ability to identify interesting books for your children’s age group is impecable.

I browsed the store and was impressed with their collection. You can find books for kids of all ages – birth to high school – and a full spectrum of subjects from the arts to the classics, in both hard cover or soft cover. If you are looking for a particular book and they don’t have it, they are happy to place an order for you at no additional charge.

During my trip, I purchased a great copy of the Three Little Bears by Paul Galdone, Miss Spider’s Tea Party by David Kirks, and two Melissa & Doug toys, the Ice Cream Parlor Set and Band in a Box.

My girls have enjoyed reading and playing with the toys. At checkout, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that all books are offered at 25% off the cover price, everyday. Take that chain stores! I also loved their retro candy counter. It reminded me of my childhood and their candy selection is great.

Please take the time to visit Rainbow Booksellers, located at 5704 W. Vilet Street, Milwaukee, WI 53208.
